Why do we say mínu mati instead of the dictionary form mitt mat?
The preposition að forces the words following it into the dative case. The phrase að mínu mati is a very common fixed expression meaning "in my opinion" (literally "at my evaluation").
Why does the verb er come before the subject þetta?
Icelandic strictly follows the V2 (verb-second) rule. Because the sentence starts with the phrase Að mínu mati, the verb er must take the second slot. This pushes the subject þetta into the third position.
The word ákvörðun is feminine. Why is the neuter pronoun þetta used instead of the feminine þessi?
