Questions & Answers about Að mínu mati er þetta rétt ákvörðun.
Why do we say mínu mati instead of the dictionary form mitt mat?
The preposition að forces the words following it into the dative case. The phrase að mínu mati is a very common fixed expression meaning "in my opinion" (literally "at my evaluation").
Why does the verb er come before the subject þetta?
Icelandic strictly follows the V2 (verb-second) rule. Because the sentence starts with the phrase Að mínu mati, the verb er must take the second slot. This pushes the subject þetta into the third position.
The word ákvörðun is feminine. Why is the neuter pronoun þetta used instead of the feminine þessi?
When you point something out by saying "this is a..." or "that is a...", Icelandic always uses the default neuter pronoun þetta (or það). It acts as a neutral pointer before the actual noun is introduced, so it doesn't need to match the noun's gender.
Does the adjective rétt agree with þetta or ákvörðun?
