The verb behind the adjective
You have known lokaður closed and opinn open since the first lessons, and opna to open. The missing half is loka, to close — and it takes the dative: ég loka hurðinni, not hurðina.

lifa and búa both translate as live, and they are not interchangeable: búa is where your home is, lifa is being alive.

tapa and gifta
tapa to lose a game takes the dative: við töpum leiknum. Keep it apart from missa, to drop something. gifta sig is to get married; you already know the adjective giftur.
