Questions & Answers about Після зустрічі я повинен оплатити рахунок і надіслати рахунок поштою.
What case does the noun following Після take and why?
The noun зустрічі is in the genitive case. After Після (meaning “after”), Ukrainian requires the genitive case to indicate the point in time or event you refer to.
Why is рахунок repeated twice? Can I avoid that repetition?
Yes, you can replace the second рахунок with a pronoun. For example: …і надіслати його поштою. The original repeats рахунок for clarity, but replacing with його (it) makes it more natural in longer sentences.
Which cases are used with оплатити, надіслати, and поштою?
• оплатити рахунок – рахунок takes the accusative case as the direct object of the verb оплатити.
• надіслати рахунок – again, рахунок is in the accusative as the thing you send.
• поштою – this is in the instrumental case, showing the means or method (“by mail”).
What is the difference between оплатити and сплатити?
Both оплатити and сплатити mean “to pay.” Оплатити is very common in everyday speech and formal writing. Сплатити is slightly more formal or official, often found in contracts or bureaucratic contexts, but they are interchangeable in most situations.
Can I change the word order and still be correct?
Yes. Ukrainian is relatively flexible: for example, Я повинен оплатити рахунок і надіслати його поштою після зустрічі. Emphasis will shift but the meaning remains clear.
Which verb aspects are used here?
Both оплатити and надіслати are perfective verbs. They indicate single, completed actions: “to pay up” and “to send off.” This fits with the obligation after the meeting.
Why is я explicitly included? Could it be omitted?
You can drop я because the verb endings –енен (повинен) already indicate first person singular. So Після зустрічі повинен оплатити рахунок… is grammatically correct, but including я adds clarity or emphasis on who must act.
Is поштою the only option to express “by mail”?
No. You could also say листом, literally “by letter.” Надіслати рахунок листом focuses on the letter itself, while поштою emphasizes the postal service. Both are correct.
Does Після зустрічі strictly refer to a meeting that just happened?
Not necessarily immediately. It means “after the meeting,” whether that meeting ends now or is scheduled for later. Context clarifies if it’s past or future. Often it implies “as soon as our meeting finishes.”
