Questions & Answers about Kapıcı giriş katındaki emniyet kamerasını değiştirdi; ev sahibi memnun kaldı.
What does the subject Kapıcı mean here?
It’s the building’s doorman/caretaker/janitor (often called apartman görevlisi today). Depending on the building, this person may handle cleaning, fixes, and basic maintenance.
Why is emniyet kamerasını in the accusative with -nı? It looks like “his/her camera.”
- emniyet kamerası is a compound noun meaning “security camera.” In such compounds, the second noun takes the 3rd‑person possessive marker -sı by default, even though there’s no real possessor.
- When you add the definite object marker (accusative), you get a buffer -n-: emniyet kamera-sı-nı.
- So kamere-sı-nı does NOT mean “his/her camera” here; it’s just how Turkish marks a definite object when the noun already has that compound/possessive ending.
- Compare:
- kamerayı = the camera (simple noun + ACC)
- emniyet kamerasını = the security camera (compound + ACC)
