Lesson 1

In this first lesson, you'll learn some Korean characters, and you'll translate some Korean sentences using those characters into English.

Then in the next lesson, you'll learn how to type some Korean sentences yourself.

First, take a look at the table below. You don't need to memorize it, because you'll learn the sounds in time with practice. But for now, see if you can see some patterns.

CharacterSound
ga
na
da
do
di
mu
ba
si
a
eo
e
yo
i

By looking at the table, can you see that each character is composed of two parts? Can you figure out which character part stand for the a sound? And which character part stands for the i sound? What about the d sound? And is there also a character which has no sound at all?

Ok, now it's time to press the button below to start learning to translate some words from Korean to English.

It's totally fine if you don't know how to translate any word yet. If you don't know, just hit the Enter or Return key and we'll show you the answer.
