Questions & Answers about Posso fare una domanda?
Why does Italian say “to make a question” (fare una domanda) instead of “to ask a question”?
Italian pairs the verb fare with the noun domanda: fare una domanda = to ask a question. The verb chiedere means “to ask (for/someone)”, but you don’t combine it with domanda. So chiedere una domanda is wrong or redundant. Correct alternatives:
- fare una domanda (ask a question)
- chiedere qualcosa (ask something)
- chiedere a qualcuno (ask someone)
