¿Por qué se usa do not para negar si ya está el verbo want?
En inglés, en presente simple se usa casi siempre el auxiliar do para hacer la negación y las preguntas (salvo con el verbo be y los verbos modales como can, must, should, etc.).
La estructura es:
- Afirmativa: I want to wait...
- Negativa: I do not want to wait...
- Pregunta: Do you want to wait...?
El not se une al auxiliar do, no al verbo principal:
- ✅ I do not want...
- ❌ I not want...
Por eso se dice I do not want to wait longer at the station.
¿Cuál es la diferencia entre do not y don't?
Don’t es simplemente la contracción de do not:
- I do not want to wait longer at the station. (más formal / enfático)
- I don’t want to wait longer at the station. (más común en conversación)
En la vida diaria casi siempre se usa don’t al hablar.
En textos formales (correos formales, ensayos, etc.) se ve más do not, aunque don't también es correcto gramaticalmente.
