Why is है at the end of the sentence?
Hindi usually follows Subject–Object/Complement–Verb order, so the verb often comes at the end.
In माँ आज खुश है:
- माँ = mother
- आज = today
- खुश = happy
- है = is
So Hindi says something like Mother today happy is.
This is normal Hindi word order.
What does है mean here?
है is the present-tense form of the verb to be for he/she/it/this/that and also for singular nouns.
In this sentence, it means is.
So खुश है means is happy.
Why doesn’t खुश change form for feminine? Shouldn’t it agree with माँ?
