"Ganz" and "Halb" with Places
When shooting a travel documentary, you often cover entire countries and continents. To talk about "all of" or "half of" a place, German uses the adjectives ganz (whole / all) and halb (half).
Normally, German adjectives take endings based on case and gender. However, when ganz and halb come directly before geographical names that don't use an article (like most countries, continents, and cities), they remain completely uninflected. You don't add any endings at all.
| The film crew is traveling through all of Europe this year. | Das Filmteam reist dieses Jahr durch ganz Europa. |
| We visited half of Asia without losing the footage. | Wir haben halb Asien besucht, ohne das Filmmaterial zu verlieren. |
| You will film all of China right now! | Ihr werdet jetzt ganz China filmen! |
Whether the region is the subject, the direct object, or following a preposition, ganz and halb never change.
