Expressing Purpose with "um ... zu"
To say that you are doing something in order to achieve a goal, use um ... zu with an infinitive verb.
Separate the um ... zu clause from the main sentence with a comma. Start the clause with um, place any objects or details in the middle, and put zu right before the unconjugated infinitive verb at the very end.
| I need this certificate in order to get a good job. | Ich brauche dieses Zertifikat, um eine gute Arbeit zu bekommen. |
