Not at All
To emphatically deny a fake story or debunk a myth, a simple nicht (not) is sometimes not strong enough. You can amplify it by adding überhaupt or gar directly before it. Both mean "not at all" and are used interchangeably.
| This myth is not at all scientific. | Dieser Mythos ist überhaupt nicht wissenschaftlich. |
| He confuses the fact with the myth, but the hoax is not at all credible. | Er verwechselt den Fakt mit dem Mythos, aber die Falschmeldung ist gar nicht glaubwürdig. |
Notice how the amplified phrases (überhaupt nicht and gar nicht) sit in the exact same position a regular nicht would.
By No Means
For a stronger, more formal alternative meaning "by no means," use keineswegs. It acts as a single word replacing nicht in the sentence.
| Due to the hoax, the story is by no means credible. | Aufgrund der Falschmeldung ist die Geschichte keineswegs glaubwürdig. |
Putting It Together
Whether you are calling out internet nonsense or refuting a conspiracy theory, all three expressions behave identically in the sentence structure:
