Questions & Answers about Allô ? Oui, c'est moi.

Why use Allô instead of Bonjour?
Allô is a special greeting used almost exclusively when answering the telephone or checking if someone is on the line. If you were greeting someone in person, you would use Bonjour or Salut.
Why is there a space before the question mark after Allô?
In French writing, punctuation marks that are made of two parts (like the question mark, exclamation point, colon, and semicolon) always require a space before them.
Why do we say c'est instead of il est to mean "it is"?
C'est translates to "it is" or "this is" and is used to identify a person or a thing. Il est is used to describe someone (like saying "he is tall"). Since you are identifying yourself on the phone here, c'est is the correct choice.
Why do we use moi instead of je?
Je is a subject pronoun, meaning it has to be the one doing the action (like in je suis, "I am"). When the word for "me" comes after a verb to emphasize who it is, French uses what is called a "stress pronoun". The stress pronoun for "I/me" is moi.
