Expressing "Each" or "Every" with "Chaque"
To say "each" or "every", use chaque. It is invariable (meaning it has the same form for both masculine and feminine nouns) and is always followed by a singular noun.
| Each donation is useful to help our charity. | Chaque don est utile pour aider notre association. |
| Each volunteer will distribute clothes. | Chaque bénévole distribuera des vêtements. |
Expressing "Several" with "Plusieurs"
Use plusieurs to mean "several". It is also invariable, but since it describes multiple things, it is always followed by a plural noun.
| Our charity helps several children. | Notre association aide plusieurs enfants. |
| We will sort several cans. | Nous trierons plusieurs conserves. |
Expressing "A Few" with "Quelques"
Use quelques to indicate a small, unspecified quantity ("a few"). Like plusieurs, it is invariable and used with plural nouns.
| A few volunteers are already here. | Quelques bénévoles sont déjà ici. |
| I brought a few blankets for them. | J'ai apporté quelques couvertures pour eux. |
Putting It Together
Notice how these adjectives help describe quantities without using exact numbers:
| Each volunteer sorts several cans. | Chaque bénévole trie plusieurs conserves. |
| Each team will prepare a few packages. | Chaque équipe préparera quelques colis. |
