Here are the days of the week. Unlike in English, they are not capitalized in French unless they start a sentence:
| French | English |
|---|---|
| lundi | Monday |
| mardi | Tuesday |
| mercredi | Wednesday |
| jeudi | Thursday |
| vendredi | Friday |
| samedi | Saturday |
| dimanche | Sunday |
To talk about an event on a specific day, just use the day by itself. You don't need a preposition like "on":
| Monday, I am starting a new project. | Lundi, je commence un nouveau projet. |
| Are you free Wednesday? | Tu es libre mercredi ? |
| Saturday, we are going to the movie theater. | Samedi, on va au cinéma. |
Recurring Habits
To express a recurring weekly habit (like "on Mondays" or "every Tuesday"), simply add the definite article le before the day.
This changes the meaning from a one-time event to a regular occurrence:
| On Mondays, we go to the pool. | Le lundi, nous allons à la piscine. |
| On Tuesdays, she works at home. | Le mardi, elle travaille à la maison. |
| On Fridays, we buy fish. | Le vendredi, nous achetons du poisson. |
| On Sundays, there are no buses. | Le dimanche, il n'y a pas de bus. |
