Comparative adverbs (plus... que)

Comparing actions

To compare how actions are performed, use comparative adverbs. Place plus (more), moins (less), or aussi (as) before the adverb, and que (than/as) after it.

When comparing an action to a pronoun, use a stressed pronoun (like moi, toi, or nous) after que.

The acrobat jumps as fast as you.
L'acrobate saute aussi vite que toi.
The clown dances more gracefully than the acrobat.
Le clown danse plus gracieusement que l'acrobate.
The acrobats jump into the net less quickly than us.
Les acrobates sautent dans le filet moins rapidement que nous.

Adverbs never change

Unlike adjectives, adverbs describe actions, not nouns. They are invariable, meaning they never change to match the gender or number of the subject performing the action.

The juggler throws the balls as skillfully as the clown.
Le jongleur lance les balles aussi adroitement que le clown.
These jugglers throw the balls more dangerously than the clowns.
Ces jongleurs lancent les balles plus dangereusement que les clowns.
