Comparative adjectives (plus... que)

To compare two things in French, "sandwich" an adjective between a comparative word and que (than / as).

Comparing with "plus" and "moins"

Use plus (more) or moins (less) before the adjective, and que (than) after it:

This console is more popular than that one.
Cette console est plus populaire que celle-là.
This controller is less practical than that one.
Cette manette est moins pratique que celle-là.

Expressing equality with "aussi"

To say something is as [adjective] as something else, use aussi ... que:

The virtual world is as realistic as life.
Le monde virtuel est aussi réaliste que la vie.
This character is as interesting as the other one.
Ce personnage est aussi intéressant que l'autre.

Elision with "que"

Que drops its vowel and becomes qu' when the following word begins with a vowel or a mute h.

This console is more fun than a computer.
Cette console est plus amusante qu'un ordinateur.

Adjective agreement

The adjective always agrees in gender and number with the noun it describes (the first subject in the sentence):

These buttons are smaller than those.
Ces boutons sont plus petits que ceux-là.
This adventure is more violent than the first one.
Cette aventure est plus violente que la première.
