Collective quantities (la plupart de)

In French, the expression la plupart de means "most of".

When you use la plupart de followed by a plural noun, the verb that follows must always be conjugated in the plural.

Keep in mind that when the preposition de is followed by the plural definite article les, they must contract to form des (la plupart des...).

Most of the customers find that the service is excellent.
La plupart des clients trouvent que le service est excellent.
Most of the employees are very friendly.
La plupart des employés sont très aimables.
Most of the comments are excellent.
La plupart des commentaires sont excellents.

Discussing Reviews and Service

Let's apply this rule to a common scenario: reading and responding to customer feedback. You will see the same plural agreement applied when discussing business terms like l'amélioration (the improvement) and le gérant (the manager).

Most of the customers thank the manager.
La plupart des clients remercient le gérant.
Most of the customers ask for an improvement of the service.
La plupart des clients demandent une amélioration du service.

La plupart with Possessive Adjectives

If you want to say "most of our customers" instead of "most of the customers," the word de does not contract. It simply sits right next to the possessive adjective (de nos, de vos, de leurs). Because the noun following it is still plural, the verb remains plural!

Most of our clients notice the improvement.
La plupart de nos clients remarquent l'amélioration.
