Big numbers (deux cents, deux mille)

You know cent and mille. Multiples put the small number first, like English:

deux cents200
deux cent cinquante250
deux mille2 000
dix mille10 000

cent takes -s only when it ends the number: deux cents, but deux cent cinquante.

The coat costs two hundred euros.
Le manteau coûte deux cents euros.
There are two hundred books in the room.
Il y a deux cents livres dans la salle.
Two hundred and fifty euros is too expensive.
Deux cent cinquante euros, c'est trop cher.

mille never changes:

This town has two thousand inhabitants.
Cette ville a deux mille habitants.
The castle is more than two thousand years old.
Le château a plus de deux mille ans.

Years are read as plain numbers: deux mille trois — 2003.

She was born in two thousand and three.
Elle est née en deux mille trois.

million

million (and milliard, billion) are nouns: they pluralize, and take de before what they count.

The movie cost two million euros.
Le film a coûté deux millions d'euros.
Millions of people watch this movie.
Des millions de gens regardent ce film.
