Learn Finnish: Vihdoin oivalsin totuuden, mikä muovasi tulevaisuuttani. - I finally realized the truth, which shaped my future.

While mikä is used to refer back to superlatives, it is also the required pronoun when referring back to an entire preceding clause. Here, mikä implies that the whole event of realizing the truth is what shaped the future. If you used joka, it would grammatically refer only to the immediately preceding noun, meaning the truth itself shaped your future.

Why is the object totuuden in the genitive-accusative case?

The verb oivaltaa (to realize or grasp) expresses a completed action. Because the realization was a fully completed event, it takes a total object. In an affirmative sentence, this means the object takes the genitive-like accusative ending -n.

If the first object is total, why is the second object tulevaisuuttani in the partitive case?

Object cases depend on the verb. The verb muovata (to shape or mold) describes an ongoing or continuous process rather than an instantly finished event. Because the action of shaping is open-ended, its object requires the partitive case, to which the possessive suffix -ni is added.

What is the difference between oivaltaa and other verbs for realizing, like tajuta or huomata?
