Questions & Answers about Kaupunki perusti tämänkin lukion vuosisata sitten.
Why is vuosisata in the basic nominative form before sitten?
When using sitten (ago) with a singular time period, the time word stays in the nominative. For example, vuosisata sitten (a century ago) or vuosi sitten (a year ago). If you added a number, you would need the partitive, like in kaksi vuosisataa sitten (two centuries ago).
Why are tämä and lukio in the genitive-looking form (tämänkin lukion)?
They form the total object of the sentence. Because the action of founding the school was completed and the sentence has a regular subject (kaupunki), the object takes the genitive-accusative form ending in -n.
Could the -kin (too/also) be attached to lukion instead of tämän?
It is possible, but attaching it to the pronoun tämän is much more natural here. In Finnish, clitics like -kin usually attach to the first word of the noun phrase they emphasize. Tämänkin lukion implies they founded this high school in addition to something else.
How does the word vuosisata work as a compound?
It is simply made of vuosi (year) and sata (hundred). Literally, a year-hundred to mean a century!
