Questions & Answers about Ohjaaja neuvoo kuvaajaa katsomaan minun ilmettäni.
Why are we using the partitive kuvaajaa and the -maan form katsomaan here?
This is the specific sentence structure for the verb neuvoa (to advise). When you advise someone to do something, the person being advised is in the partitive case (kuvaajaa), and the action they are advised to do is in the 3rd infinitive illative form (katsomaan).
Why is the expression (ilmettäni) in the partitive case?
The verb katsoa (to look at) requires its object to be in the partitive case. Even though the verb appears here in its 3rd infinitive form (katsomaan), that rule still applies, so ilme becomes ilmettä.
What is the base form of ilmettäni and how did it get that ending?
The base word is ilme (expression or look). For nouns ending in -e, the partitive ending is -tta or -ttä. Here, it becomes ilmettä, and then the possessive suffix -ni (my) is added to the end.
Since we already have minun, do we really need the -ni at the end of ilmettäni?
