Questions & Answers about Toiveet täyttyvät missä tahansa.
How does missä tahansa translate to "anywhere"?
The particle tahansa translates roughly to "any" or "-ever" when it follows a question word. Here, it pairs with the inessive form missä (in what / where) to mean "anywhere" or "in any place".
Does the word tahansa change its endings to match the word it follows?
No, tahansa is an invariable word, meaning it never changes. When you need a different case, only the question word changes. For example, "to anywhere" would be mihin tahansa, and "from anywhere" would be mistä tahansa.
Why is the verb täyttyvät used here instead of täyttävät?
Täyttyä is an intransitive verb (it doesn't take a direct object) meaning "to become full" or "to come true". By contrast, täyttää is transitive and means "to fill" or "to fulfill" something. Since the wishes are coming true on their own rather than fulfilling something else, we use täyttyvät.
What is the base form of toiveet, and why does it have a double 'e'?
The base word is toive (wish). For Finnish nouns ending in -e, the stem adds a second e before case endings are attached. Here, the stem becomes toivee-, and the nominative plural marker -t is added to make toiveet.
