Why is it sunnuntaina and not just sunnuntai?
To say "on a specific day" in Finnish, you add the ending -na or -nä to the day of the week. This is called the essive case. Because sunnuntai has the back vowels "u" and "a", vowel harmony rules mean we use the -na ending to get sunnuntaina (on Sunday).
The dictionary form for "to rest" is levätä. Why does it change to lepäämme here?
Levätä is a type 4 verb. When you conjugate type 4 verbs in the present tense, the word stem changes to its "strong" form. Here, the weak v in levätä changes to a strong p to make the stem lepää-. Then you just add the "we" ending -mme to get lepäämme.
Do I have to include the word me (we), or could I just say lepäämme sunnuntaina?
