perheen is the genitive (possessive) form of perhe (family). To say "the family's", we add the genitive ending -n. For words ending in -e like perhe, the final -e doubles before adding the ending, making the stem perhee-, which gives us perheen.

Why does perheen come before kissa?

Just like in English where we say "the family's cat", in Finnish the word with the genitive -n ending (perheen) almost always comes right before the thing being owned (kissa).

Why is there a -ko attached to the verb tulee?

The -ko suffix is a question particle. Adding it to the verb tulee (comes) and putting that verb at the beginning of the sentence turns a standard statement into a yes/no question: "Does it come?".

What does the -stä ending on metsästä do?

The -stä ending means "from" or "out of" the inside of a place. It attaches directly to the word metsä (forest) to indicate exactly where the cat is coming from.
