Why do both vihreä and paita change their endings here?
In Finnish, adjectives must match (or agree with) the noun they describe. Because the shirt is in the partitive case (paitaa), the adjective describing it must also be in the partitive case (vihreää). They work together as a matching pair!
Why are we using the partitive case (vihreää paitaa) instead of the basic forms (vihreä paita)?
The verb etsiä (to look for) always requires the thing you are looking for to be in the partitive case. Because you are in the middle of searching and haven't found it yet, the action is ongoing, which is a common reason to use the partitive.
