In Finnish, you can derive abstract nouns from verbs by adding the suffix -nto or -ntö (depending on vowel harmony). These nouns typically describe the outcome of an action, an established function, or a system.

Stem Changes and Gradation
When attaching this suffix, the verb stem sometimes undergoes consonant gradation or minor vowel changes. For instance, the verb sopia (to agree) takes the weak consonant grade to become sovinto (a settlement).
