The Texts Every Resident Reads
A tiedote is the one-page official announcement Finnish life runs on: the housing company taping one in the stairwell, the school mailing one to parents, the ministry publishing one at noon. You have had sääntö (rule) since position 43 and ohje (instruction) since 133 — tiedote completes the set from SM4's text-type list.
| The school sends a bulletin to the parents. | Koulu lähettää tiedotteen vanhemmille. |
The Two Job-Hunt Documents
Työpaikkailmoitus is the job advertisement you read; työkokemus is the work experience you offer back. Together with hakemus (position 85) and ansioluettelo (position 225) they are the four nouns of every Finnish job search.
| I have five years of work experience. | Minulla on viisi vuotta työkokemusta. |
How a Formal Message Ends
Finnish formal letters and emails close with a fixed instructive-plural formula — learn it as a chunk:
| closing | register |
|---|---|
| Ystävällisin terveisin | the neutral standard — use this one |
| Parhain terveisin | a shade warmer, still formal |
Both mean roughly with kindest/best regards; nobody composes them word by word, and neither should you.
| Kind regards, Anna Mäkinen. | Ystävällisin terveisin, Anna Mäkinen. |
Lista
Lista is the everyday word for a list — shopping list, guest list, waiting list. It slots into the same formal messages: attachments, names, prices.
| I make a list before the shop. | Teen listan ennen kauppaa. |
