Weighing Options: toisaalta ... toisaalta
When weighing the pros and cons of two options, use the repeating conjunction pair toisaalta ... toisaalta ("on the one hand ... on the other hand").
Place toisaalta at the beginning of your first statement, and repeat it at the beginning of your contrasting statement.
| On the one hand, a city break fascinates me, on the other hand, a beach holiday would be refreshing. | Toisaalta kaupunkiloma kiehtoo minua, toisaalta rantaloma olisi virkistävä. |

You can also use toisaalta ... toisaalta to contrast two different features of the exact same thing:

Expressing Interest: kiehtoa and houkutella
To describe how different choices appeal to you, use kiehtoa (to fascinate) and houkutella (to attract). The person being fascinated or attracted takes the partitive case (e.g., minua, meitä).
| On the one hand, a new activity attracts me, on the other hand, I like a familiar city break. | Toisaalta uusi aktiviteetti houkuttelee minua, toisaalta pidän tutusta kaupunkilomasta. |
| A long flight time does not attract us at all. | Pitkä lentoaika ei houkuttele meitä yhtään. |
Direct Comparisons
To say one option is better, worse, or equal to another, use kuin (than / as) along with a comparative adjective or adverb. For negative comparisons, use ei niin ... kuin (not as ... as).
