Interested OUT OF Something
English is interested in; Finnish is interested out of. Kiinnostunut — the participle of kiinnostua — always takes the elative -sta/-stä:
| Olen kiinnostunut musiikista. | I am interested in music. |
| Oletko kiinnostunut historiasta? | Are you interested in history? |
| En ole kiinnostunut urheilusta. | I am not interested in sports. |
You have been drilling the expression since it was carded in this lesson — this is the rule behind those drills. The same elative pattern returns with a whole family of feeling-words later (B1), so learn the shape here: feeling + -sta = feeling ABOUT.
| Are you interested in history? | Oletko kiinnostunut historiasta? |
Kiinnostunut agrees
Like any adjective-shaped word, it agrees in number: me olemme kiinnostuneita (partitive plural — you know it from the partitive-plural lesson).
| The child is interested in everything. | Lapsi on kiinnostunut kaikesta. |
