Questions & Answers about پسره کجاست؟
Why does the word for boy, پسر, have an ه added to the end of it here?
In colloquial spoken Farsi, adding ـه to the end of a noun acts like the definite article the in English. While formal written Farsi doesn't have a word for the, spoken Farsi uses this suffix to show you mean a specific noun. So پسر means a boy or just boy, but پسره means the specific boy that the speaker and listener already know about.
How is the word کجاست formed, and can I write it as two words?
کجاست is a very common contraction of کجا (where) and the verb است (is). You can write them as two separate words (کجا است), which is common in formal writing. However, in everyday speech and casual writing, they are almost always merged into کجاست (pronounced kojast).
If I want to ask "Where is A boy?" instead of "Where is THE boy?", how would this sentence change?
You would drop the spoken definite suffix ـه from the noun and instead use the indefinite suffix ـی or the word یک. For example, you would say پسری کجاست؟ or یک پسر کجاست؟ to ask where any boy is, rather than looking for a specific one.
