Why does آخرین come before the noun درس instead of after it?
Normally, adjectives come after the noun in Farsi. However, Type 2 ordinal numbers (which usually end in -omin or -in) are a special exception. They are placed before the noun, which actually matches the English word order!
Do I need an Ezafe (-e) connecting sound between آخرین and درس?
No, you don't. When you place a Type 2 ordinal number before a noun, the Ezafe is not used. You simply say آخرین درس (akharin dars), without any connecting vowel.
The lesson focuses on the -omin suffix for ordinal numbers. Why does آخرین only end in -in?
Most numbers use -omin to form this kind of ordinal (for example, دومین for "second"). However, the words for "first" (اولین) and "last" (آخرین) are irregular exceptions. They simply add -in to the base word.
Could I say "the last lesson" by putting the adjective after the noun instead?
Yes! You can use the standard Farsi word order by dropping the -in suffix and using the Ezafe. درس آخر (dars-e akhar) means the exact same thing as آخرین درس (akharin dars), and both are very common.
