Questions & Answers about تصمیمِ او مهم است.
How do we get 'his decision' when the words just say 'decision' and 'he'?
Farsi uses a hidden linking sound called the ezāfe to show possession. You pronounce an 'e' sound between the words (tasmim-e u), even though it isn't usually written out. Literally, this translates to 'decision of him'.
Does the pronoun او specifically mean 'his', or could it mean 'her'?
Farsi pronouns do not have gender! او can mean 'he', 'she', 'him', 'her', or even 'it'. Without extra context, this sentence could just as easily be translated as 'Her decision is important.'
Why is the verb است at the very end of the sentence?
In Farsi, the verb is almost always placed at the very end of the sentence. The literal word order here is 'His decision important is.'
Since the current lesson is about the subjunctive, why isn't است in the subjunctive form here?
The subjunctive is used to express things like doubt, wishes, necessity, or secondary actions (like 'I need to sleep'). This sentence is a simple, straightforward statement of fact, so it just uses the regular present tense verb است (is).
