To describe starting an activity in Farsi, use the compound verb شروع کردن (to start).
Starting the Routine: شروع کردن به
To specify what action you are starting, pair شروع کردن with the preposition به (to/at) and the infinitive of the action verb (ending in ـدن or ـتن).
In standard word order, the به phrase goes directly between شروع and the conjugated form of کردن.
| I started to lift weights in the bodybuilding camp. | من در اردوی بدنسازی شروع به وزنه زدن کردم.man dar ordu-ye badansâzi shoru' be vazne zadan kardam. |
| The athletes start to run to increase physical stamina. | ورزشکاران برای افزایش استقامت جسمانی شروع به دویدن میکنند.varzeshkârân barâye afzâyesh-e esteqâmat-e jesmâni shoru' be davidan mikonand. |
Flexible Word Order
It is also common to keep شروع کردن together and place the به phrase after it. Simply conjugate کردن immediately after شروع, followed by به and the infinitive.
| Every morning, we start to warm up with discipline. | ما هر صبح با انضباط شروع میکنیم به نرمش کردن.mâ har sobh bâ enzebât shoru' mikonim be narmesh kardan. |
| It seems that this process starts to test your mental readiness. | به نظر میرسد که این روند شروع میکند به آزمایش کردن آمادگی روانی شما.be nazar mi-rasad ke in ravand shoru' mikonad be âzmâyesh kardan-e âmâdegi-ye ravâni-ye shomâ. |
Consistency Across Tenses
This structure works exactly the same way across different tenses and in negative sentences. Apply standard conjugation rules to کردن while leaving the infinitive intact.
| He never starts to exercise without a warm-up. | او هرگز بدون نرمش شروع به ورزش کردن نمیکند.u hargez bedun narmesh shoru' be varzesh kardan nemikonad |
| While he was in the camp, he started to lift weights. | در حالی که او در اردو بود، شروع کرد به وزنه زدن.dar hâli ke u dar ordu bud, shoru' kard be vazne zadan. |
