Form X verbal nouns (estef'âl)

The استفعال Pattern

In Farsi, you can often identify nouns that mean "seeking," "extracting," or "utilizing" by their distinct Arabic Form X pattern. By attaching the prefix استـ to a three-letter root and inserting an ا before the final root letter, you get the este-C1-C2-â-C3 pattern.

This template is highly predictable and essential for navigating human resources, administration, and formal workplace requests.

Seeking and Hiring

When dealing with employment, this pattern frequently denotes the act of seeking information or services. For instance, seeking knowledge or clarity yields استعلام (a background check or inquiry), while seeking someone's service gives us the adjective استخدامی (related to employment or recruitment).

Merit and Deployment

Applying this pattern to the root for "truth" or "right" (ح ق ق) creates استحقاق (merit or entitlement)—literally seeking what is rightfully due. Similarly, the root for "settling" (ق ر ر) forms استقرار (deployment or placement).

Continuation and Burnout

In the workplace, managers often need to ensure the استمرار (continuation) of a successful project or process. Conversely, over-utilizing employees or equipment leads to استهلاک (burnout or depreciation).

Pleas and Accountability

When issues arise, employees or officials might need to seek assistance or demand clarity. Seeking help (م د د) forms استمداد (a plea for help), while seeking an explanation produces استیضاح (formal questioning or interpellation).

Leave and Resignation

Finally, this morphological pattern covers formal absences from work. Seeking a cure (ع ل ج) creates the adjective استعلاجی, which is used for medical or sick leave. If an employee seeks to be excused (ع ف و) from their position entirely, they submit an استعفانامه (resignation letter).
