Form VIII verbal nouns (efte'âl)

The افتعال Pattern

To express reflexive actions, personal involvement, or the resulting state of an action, Farsi uses a highly predictable Arabic verbal noun pattern. Inserting a ت after a three-letter root's first letter creates the e-C1-t-e-C2-â-C3 template.

For example, applying this framework to the root for "gather" (ج م ع) yields اجتماع (gathering or society).

Unity and Conviction

This pattern frequently builds abstract nouns related to civic duties and politics, such as اعتقاد (conviction).

(Note: In words like اتحاد for "unity", the first root letter is absorbed into the ت, but the grammatical function remains identical.)

Authority and Appointments

You will encounter this rhythm constantly in the news. Placing the root for power (ق د ر) into the template gives us اقتدار (authority), while the root for assigning (ن ص ب) produces انتصاب (appointment).

Public Trust and Initiatives

This noun form is the standard tool for framing issues of public trust like اختلاس (embezzlement), measuring voters' اشتیاق (enthusiasm), or introducing a new ابتکار (initiative).

Moderation and Abstention

Political strategies and choices also frequently use this form. Pursuing اعتدال (moderation), exercising one's اختیار (choice), or resorting to امتناع (abstention) all rely on this exact morphological pattern.
