Two faces of po
You just learned po + locative for moving around a space (hodamo po gradu). With the ACCUSATIVE, po means something completely different: going to FETCH something or pick someone up.
| pattern | meaning |
|---|---|
| ići po kruh | to go get bread |
| doći po djecu | to come pick up the children |
| ići po poštu | to go get the mail |
In use
| I am going to get bread and milk. | Idem po kruh i mlijeko. |
| Father is coming to pick up the children at five. | Otac dolazi po djecu u pet. |
Which case?
The case tells you which reading you get: po gradu (locative — around the city) vs po kruh (accusative — to get bread). Listen for the ending.
