"We" and "Are"
To talk about yourself and others, use mi (we) and smo (are).
| We are here. | Mi smo ovdje. |
As with singular pronouns, you can drop the pronoun when the verb makes the subject clear.
| Today we are tired. | Danas smo umorni. |
"You" and "Are"
When addressing a group of people, use vi (you plural) and ste (are).
| You are happy people. | Vi ste sretni ljudi. |
| And where are you? | A gdje ste vi? |
"They" and "Are"
To talk about a group of people or things, use oni (they) and su (are).
| They are home today. | Oni su danas doma. |
| Who are they? | Tko su oni? |
Putting it together
Notice how the short forms of the verb to be (smo, ste, su) typically appear as the second word in their part of the sentence.
| The man is big, and you are small. | Čovjek je velik, a vi ste mali. |
| They are tired, and we are happy. | Oni su umorni, a mi smo sretni. |
