When talking about shopping or collections of items, you will frequently use the verbs for buying and selling:
| to buy | kupovati |
| to sell | prodavati |
Masculine and Feminine Plurals (-e)
For plural direct objects (the accusative case), masculine and feminine nouns both take the ending -e.
- Masculine: poklon (gift) becomes poklone
- Feminine: čokolada (chocolate) becomes čokolade
| I am buying gifts. | Kupujem poklone. |
| We do not have chocolates. | Nemamo čokolade. |
Adjectives modifying these nouns perfectly match the -e ending:
| She is buying new shoes. | Ona kupuje nove cipele. |
| I need clean glasses. | Trebam čiste čaše. |
Neuter Plurals (-a)
Neuter nouns behave differently. As plural direct objects, they take the ending -a.
- Neuter: računalo (computer) becomes računala
- Neuter: odijelo (suit) becomes odijela
| This store sells computers. | Ovaj dućan prodaje računala. |
| People are buying suits today. | Ljudi danas kupuju odijela. |
Adjectives describing a neuter plural object also match this -a ending:
| The school has new computers. | Škola ima nova računala. |
Multiple Objects
To list multiple direct objects, apply -e to masculine and feminine items, and -a to neuter items.
| We are buying gifts and toys. | Kupujemo poklone i igračke. |
| We are looking for toys and suits. | Tražimo igračke i odijela. |
