Neuter Plural Nouns
In Croatian, regular neuter nouns typically end in -o or -e in the singular. To make them plural, change the final letter to -a.
For example, pismo (letter) becomes pisma, and pitanje (question) becomes pitanja.
| Where are the letters? | Gdje su pisma? |
| Villages and lakes are beautiful. | Sela i jezera su lijepa. |
Matching Adjectives
Adjectives must match the gender and number of the nouns they describe. When describing a neuter plural noun, regular adjectives also take the -a ending.
Notice how words like stara (old), teška (difficult), and otvorena (open) end in -a to match neuter plural nouns.
| The letters are old. | Pisma su stara. |
| These places are beautiful. | Ova mjesta su lijepa. |
| Those are difficult questions. | To su teška pitanja. |
| The cinemas are open today. | Kina su danas otvorena. |
| The theatres are closed. | Kazališta su zatvorena. |
