When little words pile up
You know the clitics: sam/je, mi/ti/mu, me/te/ga, se. When several meet in second position, their ORDER is fixed. The rule for se: a dative clitic comes BEFORE se. | cluster | example | | --- | --- | | mi se | Sviđa mi se ovaj grad. | | ti se | Sviđa ti se knjiga? | | mu se | Javit ću mu se sutra. |
| I like this city. | Sviđa mi se ovaj grad. |
ju beside je
One more rule of the cluster: when the feminine pronoun je (her) would stand next to the auxiliary je (is), Croatian swaps the pronoun to ju — Vidio ju je (he saw her), never "vidio je je":
| He saw her yesterday. | Vidio ju je jučer. |
That is why you learned both je and ju as accusative forms — ju is the one that appears beside the auxiliary.
