Adjectives that demand a case
Some Croatian adjectives are not complete on their own — they govern a case, the way verbs do.
sličan + dative
sličan (similar) takes the DATIVE for the thing you resemble:
| She is similar to her mother. | Ona je slična majci. |
This is the same dative you know from giving and telling — the comparison points AT someone.
pun + genitive
pun (full), which you already know, takes the GENITIVE for what fills the container:
| The glass is full of water. | Čaša je puna vode. |

Compare this with kao from the previous lesson: kao compares whole situations (spava kao beba), while sličan + dative states a resemblance directly.
