Questions & Answers about أحمد ويوسف توأم وهما يتشابهان جدا.
How does the verb يتشابهان show that two people are doing the action?
The verb يتشابهان (they resemble each other) is in the dual present tense. Because Ahmed and Youssef are two males, we use the regular 'he/they' prefix يـ (ya-) and add the dual suffix ـان (-aan) to the end. If it were just one person, it would be يتشابه (he resembles).
Why do we use هما instead of هم for 'they'?
In Arabic, whenever you refer to exactly two people or things, you must use a dual pronoun. هم (hum) is the plural 'they' for three or more people. هما (huma) is the specific pronoun for 'they two,' used here for Ahmed and Youssef.
Why isn't the word for twins, توأم, in the dual form here?
You might expect to see the dual word توأمان (taw'amaan) since there are two boys. However, the word توأم (taw'am) is often used to describe the pair as a single concept or unit. It is very common in Arabic to use this singular form to say 'twins.'
Does the verb يتشابهان have a built-in meaning of 'each other'?
Yes! This verb follows a specific structure (Form VI) that often describes a shared or mutual action. Because of this pattern, يتشابهان inherently means 'they resemble each other' without needing extra words to translate 'each other.'
