Questions & Answers about السؤال رقم سبعة صعب جدا.
Why does the number سبعة (seven) end in a taa' marbuuTa (ة) if the word السؤال (the question) is masculine?
In this lesson, we are using the bare counting form of the number. Because it is being used as a simple digit or label right after the word رقم (number), we use the default form of the number. For numbers 3 to 10, this default counting form always ends in a taa' marbuuTa.
Why does جدا (very) come after صعب (difficult)?
In Arabic, the word جدا (very) always comes after the adjective it is describing. So instead of saying 'very difficult', the Arabic word order is literally 'difficult very'.
Where is the word for 'is' in this sentence?
Arabic does not use a word for 'is' or 'are' in the present tense. The first part, السؤال رقم سبعة (The question number seven), is the subject, and صعب جدا (very difficult) is the new information about it. Putting them together automatically creates a full sentence.
Why does السؤال have الـ (the) attached to it if the English translation is just 'Question number seven'?
In Arabic, when you are talking about a specific, known item like a particular question on a test, it needs the definite article الـ (al-). English often drops the word 'the' when a noun is followed by a number, but Arabic keeps it to show it is a specific question.
