Questions & Answers about الحافلة رقم ستة هنا.
Why does the number ستة have a feminine ending (taa marbuuta) when we learned that numbers sometimes change based on gender?
Because you are naming the number itself! When saying "number six" (رقم ستة), you use the default bare counting form of the number, which ends in a taa marbuuta for 3-10. You aren't counting a quantity of buses here, so the number doesn't need to change to match the gender of الحافلة (the bus).
Where is the word for "is" in this sentence?
Arabic doesn't use a word for "is" or "are" in the present tense. You simply put the subject (الحافلة رقم ستة, "bus number six") next to its location (هنا, "here"), and the "is" is naturally understood.
Could I leave out the word رقم and just say الحافلة ستة?
It is much more natural to include رقم (number) when referring to a label, like a bus route, a room, or a telephone number. Without it, the sentence sounds incomplete. To say a quantity like "six buses," you would use a completely different grammar structure!
Both الحافلة and ستة end in the same letter (ة). How is it pronounced here?
That letter is the taa marbuuta (ة). At the end of a word in everyday speech, it is usually pronounced as a short "a" sound. So, you will hear "al-haafila" and "sitta".
