### Derived Form XI (افْعَلَّ): Physical Defects

To express that something has acquired an intense state or undergone a physical transition, Arabic uses a specific derived verb pattern: **افْعَلَّ**. You can spot this form by its prefixed Alif (**ا**) and the shadda (doubling) on the final root letter. 

Because these verbs describe transitions or states rather than actions directed at something else, they are almost always intransitive (they do not take a direct object). This pattern is often used for physical flaws or structural changes, such as something becoming bent or crooked.

### Intense Colors

Beyond physical defects, this exact same pattern is most famously used for colors. When a noun takes on a color—such as leaves turning yellow or a face blushing red—the three root letters of the color are put into the **افْعَلَّ** pattern.

Notice how non-human plural nouns (like leaves) take the feminine conjugation, adding a **ت** to the end of the past tense verb.
