odbierać (imperfective) / odebrać (perfective) means "to pick up, to answer" a call (also "to collect / pick up" a parcel, a child from school, etc.). The perfective odebrać is the family's one irregular shape: its future stem is odbior-/odbierz-, giving odbiorę, odbierzesz… odbiorą — a classic io / ie vowel alternation in the stem.

What ties this family together is one root, dzwoni-/dzwon- (literally "ring, sound a bell"), reshaped by prefixes. Reading the prefix tells you what each verb does — a habit worth building early, because Polish forms most of its verb vocabulary this way:
