Denying the Past
The last lesson used ได้ before a verb for things that DID happen. To say something did NOT happen, put ไม่ได้ in front of the verb:

Position Is Everything
You already know ได้ AFTER a verb for ability: พูดไม่ได้ can't speak. The meaning flips with the position:

It's Not That...
The same ไม่ได้ + verb denies an assumption: ผมไม่ได้โกรธ — I'm not angry (it's not that I'm angry). This is the polite way to correct what someone thinks.
Two Time Words for the Recent Past
เมื่อคืน — last night; เมื่อเช้า — this morning (earlier today). Both work like เมื่อวาน, which you know.
