Questions & Answers about Passar den här storleken?
Why is storleken in the definite ("the") form if the translation is just "this size"?
In Swedish, when you use the demonstrative den här or det här (this), the noun that follows must also be in its definite form. So you are literally saying "this here the size": den här storleken.
How do I know whether to use den här or det här?
It depends on the gender of the noun. Because the word for size is an en-word (en storlek), we use den här. If you were talking about an ett-word like ett hus (a house), you would use det här instead, like in det här huset.
Why doesn't this sentence use a word for "does"?
Swedish doesn't use helper verbs like "do" or "does" to form questions. To turn a statement like Den här storleken passar (This size fits) into a yes/no question, you simply move the verb to the very front: Passar den här storleken?
Can passar mean anything else besides "fit"?
Yes! While it means "fit" when talking about clothes or physical spaces, it can also mean "suit" or "be appropriate." For example, if someone suggests a time to meet, you can say Det passar bra (That suits me well / That works well).
