Questions & Answers about När börjar mötet?
Why doesn't Swedish use a word for "does" in this question?
In English, we say "When DOES the meeting begin?", using a helper verb. Swedish doesn't use helper verbs for questions. Instead, you just put the question word first (när), the main verb second (börjar), and the subject third (mötet). It literally translates to "When begins the meeting?".
Why is it mötet and not just möte?
Mötet means "the meeting". In Swedish, you usually say "the" by adding an ending to the noun. "A meeting" is ett möte. Because it is an ett-word that already ends in a vowel, you just add a -t to the end to make it mötet.
What is the basic dictionary form of börjar?
The basic form (the infinitive) is börja, which means "to begin" or "to start". To make it present tense (begins / is beginning), you just add an -r to make it börjar.
Does the word när change depending on what I am asking about?
No! Unlike adjectives or some other words that change based on whether a noun is an en-word or ett-word, question words like när (when) always stay exactly the same.
