In Swedish, nouns belong to one of two groups: en-words and ett-words. The word for dog is an en-word (en hund), so we add -en to the end to say "the dog" (hunden). The word for floor is an ett-word (ett golv), so it gets the -et ending to mean "the floor" (golvet).
In English we say "often sleeps". Why does ofta come after the verb sover here?
In a standard Swedish sentence, the main verb almost always takes the second spot. This is known as the V2 rule. Since Hunden is in the first spot, the verb sover must come immediately after it. Therefore, adverbs like ofta get pushed to the position right after the verb.
